Henrietta Johanna Elsing, age 98, was born on April 4, 1919 at her home south of Rushmore, MN. She was the daughter of Joseph and Bessie (DeVries) Redenius. At the age of 4 she moved with her family to Harold, S.D. Later, they moved back to Rushmore, where she attended county school.
Henrietta met Willie Elsing at a dance hall located where the bank is in Rushmore. They were married March 23, 1938 in Luverne, MN. They lived in Worthington, on a farm southwest of Brewster, on a farm east of Reading and then a farm south of Rushmore. In 1980, they built their home in Rushmore.
Henrietta will be remembered for the many wedding, graduation and birthday cakes she made with her sister-in-law, Minnie Elsing. They also taught cake decorating classes for many years. She was a member of East Friesland Presbyterian Church, Rushmore, where she taught Sunday School, Bible school and was active in Women's Dorcas Society. In most recent years she was a member of the American Reformed Church in Worthington. She was active in many different community activities, including Rushmore Senior Citizens and Rushmore Central Hustlers 4-H leader for 18 years. She also enjoyed the wildlife at the Elsing Preserve. Henrietta died on Monday, Dec. 18 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage, Worthington.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Truesdell officiating. Burial was in Sunset Rest Cemetery near Rushmore.
